HAI Leads Effort Opposing NYC Heliport Restrictions

On Mar. 9, 2021, HAI sent a joint coalition letter to the New York City Council Committee on Economic Development expressing views on several bills regarding urban helicopter operations. The letter serves as a supplement to the oral testimony provided to the committee by representatives from the Eastern Region Helicopter Council.

The coalition expressed its appreciation for the council’s investment in New York City heliport infrastructure since 1965 and highlighted the helicopter industry’s value to the economic future of the city. The letter urges the committee to withdraw bills no. 2026 and 2067, which impose restrictions on helicopter operations at the city’s heliports and would be devastating to New York City’s economy overall, as well as the economic viability of the heliports and the helicopter industry. The coalition fully supports bill no. 2027, which would study the use of electric aircraft by the city. As a representative of the aviation community, HAI is actively working to preserve and encourage global investment in heliport infrastructure.
